Environmental Change

Environments are always changing; our perception of these changes is a matter of perspective, and in the case of palaeoecology or archaeology, our perspective is governed by the resolution of our samples and our analysis methods.

If samples are part of a sequence (a core, or peat profile, for example), then you can visualize environmental change in a way that is not influenced by varying sample sizes. (It’s not quite that simple of course…) Comparisons with modern day environments also become easier.
